(Technology Support for Classes and Evening Appointments Available)
This designated group of technicians and student workers are available for troubleshooting, training, and equipment maintenance in supported facilities. CTec provides consulting to other units and department technicians, WVU-hired vendors, architects, design firms, and with WVU administration. Part of OIT's Support Services unit, this group also works with the Provost's Office to define classroom standards and renovate general purpose classrooms.
In Fall 2008, WVU added 13 newly renovated CTec Standard technology classrooms to their support. These new rooms are Agricultural Sciences Building 1001, Business & Economics Building 459, Engineering Sciences Builiding G102, Percival Hall 332, and Woodburn Hall rooms G4, G21, 101, 102, 105, 106, 109, 110, and 116 (computer lab). Also 6 CTec Basic clasrooms were added to Allen Hall rooms 612, 703, 711, 712, 808, and 809. VCR's will not be installed into these new rooms. For more information on each classroom, please see the technology classroom web page.
There are a total of 67 classrooms on the Downtown and Evansdale campuses supported by CTec. Of those, 58 have the "CTec Standard" designation, which are equipped with a PC (with DVD playback capabilities), data video projector, document camera, auxiliary input panel, and touchpanel control system. Additional "optional" equipment such as microphones, personal response system clickers (PRS), Macintosh computer, VCR, and dual projection screens are available depending on the room. An additional 3 rooms have the "CTec Computer Lab" designation, which incorporate the CTec Standard into a room with computer workstations for each student. 6 classrooms in Allen Hall have the "CTec Basic" designation for facilities that are "Laptop Ready" with a projector and an input panel available for a laptop or other devices that an instructor can bring with them into class. If you are interested in teaching in any CTec classroom, please ask Classroom Reservations for proper placement to meet your instructional needs.
CTec staff are available to meet with faculty for individualized training sessions. A mock classroom equipped with a standard technology lectern is available in the Oglebay Hall CTec office for on-the-spot training. Please contact us at 304-293-2832 with your questions, concerns, or training requests.
Thursday, August 28, 2008, from 10 am to 2 pm in G4 Oglebay Hall, CTec staff will be available for training and demonstrations, as well as answering questions about CTec technology. Personal appointments may also be requested. Please call 293-CTEC (2832) to schedule an appointment.
Due to the expense of purchasing and maintaining technology equipment, instructors who wish to use technology resources in CTec-supported classrooms are requested to attend an open house or schedule a personal appointment for training.
"Virtual" CTec Animations Available Online
Three online animations have been created to provide new users with a preview (or past users with a review) of CTec classrooms. The Virtual CTec Standard Classroom simulates a CTec standard room with PC, Document Camera, etc. A similar 2-projector version is also available. And for CTec's 6 new "Laptop Ready" rooms at Allen Hall, the Virtual CTec Basic Classroom is available. These simulations allow "virtual" control for your to test and familiarize yourself online. We still encourage instructors to contact CTec directly for a full training session.
Faculty Survey on Classroom Renovations and Technology
http://simpleforms.scripts.wvu.edu/2010plan/ctec/ WVU has invested significant resources in classroom renovations and technologies. These renovations are intended to improve the teaching and learning environment by enabling instructors to integrate technology seamlessly and by providing visual, audio, and physical resources to facilitate student learning. We are seeking your feedback regarding centrally-scheduled rooms in need of renovation, the technology resources desired in classrooms, and barriers to using technology. This survey should take less than ten minutes to complete, and all responses are anonymous. Please complete the online survey at http://simpleforms.scripts.wvu.edu/2010plan/ctec/. Questions should be directed to Jessika Thomas, Office of the Provost (jlthomas@mail.wvu.edu or 293-4813).
Requesting CTec Classrooms

Please select this option when scheduling classes in one of our technology classrooms. Each "CTec Standard" room is equipped with a PC with DVD playback capabilities, data video projector, document camera, and auxiliary input panel. Additional "optional" equipment may be requested via the comments box on the eSLI or writing it on the paper SLI. These optional items include microphones, personal response system (PRS), a Macintosh computer, and dual projection screens. Please note that not all equipment is available in all classrooms, but every effort will be made by Scheduling to place instructors in the rooms that best meet their instructional needs.
